Optimist Club of Sacramento Youth Camps

The Charity-Optimist Foundation Camp Ross Relles

The Optimist Foundation for the Handicapped was founded in October, 1960. The ultimate goal of the Optimists was to finally complete the development of the 241-acre summer “Camp Ross Relles” located 12 miles north of Nevada City, in North Bloomfield, California.

The property was purchased in 1960 with the idea in mind to construct a summer camp for the handicapped people of the Sacramento Valley. Both the physical, mentally and socially handicapped, regardless of race, creed or color, sex or natural origin are welcomed. The purpose of the Optimists is to provide a healthier and fuller life through the many facilities that are offered to these people during their stay at the camp.
